It's Just Like Derby, But...

* There's no betting (at least that I could find)
* The horses are louder
* The jockeys are taller

This weekend I was so lucky to get another invite to the Indy500 with my friend Jill. We were hosted by two organization that you should check out:

UMP: a urological supply company that sells here in KY. These guys are AWESOME and made us feel so welcome, so if you are looking for a new provider, check them out

Sam Schmidt Foundation: a charitable group founded by a former race car driver and current owner. Sam had a car in the Indy this year, a bright pink # driven by Alex Lloyd. I feel honored to know Sam. He has these two big companies, he does a ton of community service and outreach, and he is the nicest guy you'll ever meet. His staff includes two of my favorite people: Ida Cahill and Cindy Norton. Love it when I get to see them.

It was a day of:

* Summer Wheats
* Cheering
* Car crashes
* Lots of Laughs
* Fun People

and of course, just like Derby:

Gotta love the infield!

Reason # 102 I LOVE my neighborhood!

.....Less than 5 minutes from my house early Saturday morning:

Beargrass Church (Shelbyville Road) Farmer's Market finally opened for the summer! The food is FANTASTIC! Not only do they have fruits and veggies, they also sell meat like Buffalo, sauces, breads, flowers, and the BEST dessert-Babycakes *YUM!*

If you live in Louisville, do yourself a favor and go there next Saturday. Get there early or you will miss the red velvet cupcakes. =)

A *ScRaPtAcUlAr* Weekend!

This weekend was THE FUNDRAISER. Anyone who has spoken to me for the past month knows this has been a mind and apartment consuming project.

We were trying to raise money for the newly formed Opportunity Without Limits, basically the second generation of a group I have been closely involved with for many years, Winners On Wheels. It has been a long road, and a lot of thought went into the change, but finally we felt like it was in our best interest to break off and form our own organization. Come to find out that takes money. Money for activities, t-shirts, brochures, etc, etc…What better way to raise money than gather a group of crazy wonderful scrappers for a day long crop?

What a huge success! I was really nervous the week before the event, wondering if anyone would show up, if people would have fun, and if we really would make any money? I had nothing to worry about. I should have known that when we out our minds to it, a good time will be had!

Thanks to 8 vendors, 20 scrapper, and a dozen volunteer we made $530 towards starting our new organization! WOW! (or should I say HOOT! =) ). How awesome is that?? I can’t begin to thank everyone who made this crop a success, it was such a group effort and each person who came was a HUGE part of the day! I have a few pictures to share and you can see for yourself:

Bonjour.

I have been away from the blog all month, and I have a lot if things that I want to share, so today I will make up for lost time with 2 posts! You will be sick of me by tomorrow, I know =)
10 Things I Love Right Now:
(title taken from one of my favorite bloggers Elsie Flanningan)

1. Jelly Bean Joint. Mollie is a super cute crafter I met this weekend at THE FUNDRAISER, and there are so many reasons why I love her. She has a great blog, a fantastic Etsy shop, and she is my very first follower!!! Out of curiosity I added the Followers widget to the left to see who was reading my little blog, and she was the very first one to sign up!!! Thanks Mollie!

2. Grahamdini. One of the kids I work with has been posting his videos on YouTube. He is a budding magician, and his videos are so great. Prepare to be amazed.

3. Studio Calico. Doing some research for THE FUNDRAISER, I found out that there is a scrapbooking kit club right here in Kentucky! I am so in love with their blog, I want to drive down to Bowling Green and hang out with them!

4. Big Brother 11 is coming soon! One of only 2 reality shows I really watch, I am shamelessly addicted. In the words of Miranda Hobbs ‘don’t judge me, it’s me thing’. Do yourself a favor and watch it. And thank your lucky stars you are NOT one of these people.

5. Indy 500. I am so there! I was going, then not going, now I am going!!! Jill and I had so much fun last year, I can’t wait!

6. Sesame Noodle Salad. I am addicted to this. I eat it alone or with fish. YUM!

7. LOAD. I am playing along with Lain Ehmann’s Layout-A-Day-Challenge. Even with all I have had going on this month, it has been kind of relaxing working on little bits every day. Here is my entry for today, a finished layout from a class I took at CKC in March.

8. Audiobooks. I stumbled upon Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at the library and thought it might be fun to listen to while working out. WOW. The guy that reads them is so engaging, I couldn’t stop! I had it on while cleaning, driving, whenever I was near a speaker. I am now making my way through the whole series.

9.Free Download ideas. I have found soooo many great ideas on the web lately. I love finding freebies I can replicate at home. Like these gift boxes.
10. Ice Cream. The sunny, warm days have turned by mind to one of my favorite things about summer: ICE CREAM! Tommorow I am goinng to have more of these

That's all for now, happy clicking! Be back soon with news of last weekend-it was *SCRAPTACULAR*

We will now return to our regularly scheduled...schedule.

Well, it's back to work. Derby Week was great with an even better weekend! Did you pick Mine The Bird? If so, can you please join me next year at my Derby party (and will you buy me a lottery ticket?). I did manage to pick the number 2 horse, Pioneer of the Nile, and earned a whopping $20 on my bet, so it was not a total loss. Where to spend all my winnings......

Now I know as much as anyone that Derby is REALLY about the two weeks of fun before the big race, and I made the best of it as usual. Thursday night was the Pegasus Parade, which my friend Amy and I have seen every year for the past 5-6 years. It threatened to rain all day, but we were not detoured. We went with a positive attitude, ponchos and umbrellas, and a ban on using the 'R' word. It didn't rain until the end, but boy was it windy! The spectators on the other side of hte street definitely got a close up eyeful of a few of the balloons! Take a look of my view from the safer side....

Friday night I hopped a rental car to see my peeps in Springfield. Suzie Green was making her first communion, and sh did a WONDERFUL job! I was so teary eyed watching her stand on the altar and look so grown up and she took part in a ritual that her mother, my mother, and I all did at her age. She is growing up so fast. After church we hung out at Karen's house for drinks and a delicious buffet! I was able to sneak a little Derby fun in thanks to some very strong Mint Julep mix and the big race on a big screen. My dad, my sister's sister in law's boyfriend Jeff and I spent a good hour on the couch talking horses and Derby. So fun! Later that night we lit a fire int he fire pit and I got to chat with a bunch of their Springfield friends.

Such a great weekend, every time I go there I wish we lived closer so we could have more weekends hanging out like this:

Well, back to work. I have lots of fun from the past two weeks to clean up and put away!

Happy Monday!
