Weekend in NYC

Last month one of my besties, Leah and I took off for a long weekend trip to NYC. We have three goals: see some theatre, see a friend, see basically the whole city. I thought I might share a few of my favorite places in NYC plus a few tips along the way: #1: Miss Leah in our pimped out limo . We might have rode into the city in style. This actually was a car service that her aunt recommended to us, they threw in the limo as a bribe-us-for-a-better-tip bonus . We soaked it up, and....tipped a little extra {BONUS TIP}: Get a number for a good car service before you get to the city. They cost about the same as a cab, but they come right to you! Definitely from the airport to the hotel, but even from your hotel to sightseeing it can be a great value! 2. Go to Times Square at night. Seriously, there's nothing like it. The lights, the people watching, it's all the NYC stereotypes rolled into one. {BONUS TIP Do not eat at any restaurant in Times Square. I'm sure

The 5 year old quilt project (Tips and Tricks For Making a T-Shirt Quilt)

Today I wanted to share a quilt I finished last month for my bestie Torrie. She saw one I finished about ten years for myself and fell in love with it. I offered to make her one of her very own.We went back and forth for a while about how big it was going to be (she wanted to give me every t-shirt she saved from high to adult years. I reminded her that the fabric does not magically sew itself together, and if she wanted it in this lifetime. she had to cut it down). It took us a few years to coordinate what it would look like, etc. and about six months to finish it-mostly because I would work on it here and there, then walk away and come back a month later. I finally wrapped it up and delivered it a few weeks ago so I can now reveal the finished blanket and pass on some tricks I learned along the way. Trying Something New

This post could also be subtitled Michelle does not need a new hobby. But she has one. When was the last time you learned a new skill? I have been a maker/DIYer/tinkerer for as long as I can remember. Over the years I have gravitated towards certain mediums and gotten pretty good at them (paper, fabric and ink). I have dabbled in a few things that frustrated me because it didn't come easy (sculpture, jewelry making, ahem tennis ) Guys I get OFFENDED when I start something and I am not naturally good at it. It's a patience thing. A confidence thing. Not necessarily a good thing. Can you relate? Learning a new skill can be so rewarding! Using those parts of your body or your brain that are dormant can be such a high. Picture a crossfitter who works out like crazy for three months and can FINALLY turn over a huge tire (or climb a wall, or whatever crazy things cross fitters endeavor to achieve).
